Overview

We are seeking a creative professional to assist our Communications and Marketing Manager in generating content for our TheCityFix.com blog and EMBARQ.org news. This internship is ideal for anyone pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental science, English, liberal arts, or related studies. You will get real-world experience in a fast-paced environment. Internships may vary in length depending on your schedule, interest, and abilities.

Responsibilities

70% Write, edit, and publish online

15% Research news stories, blogs, on new initiatives and trends, interact with and assist EMBARQ experts in promoting their work

5% Social media engagement

5% Email marketing

5% Organize content on websites, databases, social media

Qualifications

College student, or recent graduate, pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental science, English, liberal arts, or related studies.

Preference given to candidates with interest in sustainability marketing and communications.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Taste for design, graphic design, and beauty in simplicity
  • Extremely well organized
  • Research ability

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Drupal 7 and WordPress
  • Knowledge of photo cropping/editing software
  • Experience in developing marketing materials, working with videos, podcasting, blogs, web
  • content management, graphics and email systems
  • Basic HTML experience

Salary: Commensurate with education, experience and position responsibilities.

Reports to: This position is based in the Washington, DC office of the EMBARQ Network and reports to EMBARQ’s Communications and Marketing Manager.

  • Communications and Marketing Team
  • EMBARQ staff in DC and around the world
  • External Relations team at the World Resources Institute

Interacts Externally with:

  • Social media community
  • Web developer
